ENHANCING THE MOONEY EXPERIENCE

Sixty years since the very first all-metal Mooney is a long time, and there is much interesting history.  Although the newest models have more horsepower, technology, and performance, they continue to carry the original distinctive Mooney lines. Obviously, there are many priorities including safety, service, and training. Then there is one more thing, especially for a vintage model.

Owners are proud of their airplanes and, no matter the age, deserve to have their Mooney look great.  This was exactly the reason why Bruce Jaeger, a long-time Mooney sales and service center owner, tackled the challenge of STC approval for what was to be called “Spatial Interior for the vintage Mooney.”

The stigma of being a little airplane that was difficult to service was not deserved.  There had to be a better way.  Bruce visualized new interior side panels mounted without screws, using hidden space between the structural tubes.  Now fifteen years after the initial STC approval, mechanics and owners alike are pleased with the refined installation technique, added elegance with fabrics, and increased storage.

Low costs continue to be a priority, and do-it-yourself installation is a real option.  Totally new plastic repair techniques are also saving original parts, dollars, and time.  To help even more owners of vintage Mooneys, materials and procedures to revitalize the interior, further reducing cost, is another option.

Increased demand and simply passing of time caused Bruce to search for the right place to carry the Spatial Interior forward.  When approached, Wisconsin Aviation quickly made the decision to get onboard.  Their full-service facilities, experienced staff, and upholstery history made them an obvious choice.  Bruce has been delighted to pass on his fifteen years of experience to Wisconsin Aviation’s Watertown facility.
